FAQ
What is a gift exchange?
See the link below for detailed information on Ao3How do I sign up?
- Click on ‘Sign-Up Form’ on the left side of your screen on the Ao3 collection page, which is linked below. For mobile users, this will be at the top of your screen instead.Do I need to make as many offers as I make requests?
- No, as long as you make one offer, you can make up to three requests. In fact, multiple requests are encouraged to give the person who is assigned to you options to choose from when they select one of your prompts for their art/fic.How long do I have to apply to participate?
- Applications will be accepted until 11 PM EST on January 27thHow does this exchange work?
- This is a writing and drawing exchange based on requests and offers. All participants will be matched so that everyone can create a gift and receive one. After receiving your assignment, you will draw or write something to meet the prompt that was requested and then you will submit your work to the AO3 collection before the deadline.Do I have to write/draw something new for this exchange?
Yes, the gift exchange does require new content. If you have concerns about the February deadline being too soon for you to have time to write or draw something based on the assigned request, you may want to select the March deadline instead in your sign up.How does matching work?
- When you fill out the sign up form, there are certain selections to pick from and also the option for additional tags. Ao3 will automatically match offers to requests that share similarities. Can I sign up as an artist and a writer?
- If you select both options in one offer, you will most likely be matched with someone who only wants one or the other. If you would like to both draw and write, make two offers, one with each role. They will be matched to two people's requests, one for art and one for fic. If you do select both roles in one offer and get matched with someone who is fine with either art or fic, you are not obligated to make both, but you can do so if you would like to.Can I change my sign-up?
- Yes, if you go to ‘My Sign-up’ you should see options to either change your sign-up or prompt. What’s the theme of the exchange?
- As suggested by the deadline, themes are encouraged to be related to either White Day or Valentine's day, but are not limited to specifically those prompts. Your request prompts can be anything as long as they are within the request guidelinesAre there restrictions on the content of the gift?
- The writing or art must be focused on Kaeya and Albedo, but your request can include other side characters or side relationships that you would also like to be included, or that you would prefer to exclude. Do not request or offer any 'Dead Dove' content. If you aren't sure if your request or gift might be considered Dead Dove, please err on the side of caution and choose a different approach to the topic or prompt. I am unable to moderate content in any language but English, so please do not submit writing in any other language or it will be rejected. Is NSFW content allowed?
- Yes but NSFW requests will only be paired with NSFW offers. Please also have a SFW prompt option in mind in case there are not enough NSFW offers to match with.Am I allowed to participate as a minor?
- Yes, but please do not request or offer NSFW or 18+ content if you are a minor. This is obviously based on the honor system, I'm not going to request to see an ID or anything. Ideally you will not be matched with any NSFW requests, but if you do happen to get one that has both NSFW and SFW prompts, please only use the SFW prompts. Can I get or give more than one gift?
- You will be required to write or draw one gift for each offer that you make, and if you make multiple offers you may be matched with more than one person.
Everyone will be assigned at least one exchange gift, but if you would like to give additional gifts the prompt requests will be visible for you to select something else in addition to the prompt that you were assigned. If something really catches your fancy, feel free to write or draw an extra gift for that prompt! Can anyone see my requests?
- Yes. This way people can surprise you with an extra gift based on your prompt if they're inspired by it.How do I submit my work?
- See the links below for a tutorial on Ao3 for both submitting and additional posting/editing questions.
There's also a link to a visual guide on the exchange tumblr page on hosting images via discord to add them to Ao3 for artists participating in the exchange. How do I make sure my art looks ok on mobile?
- See the link below for a tutorial on making large images fit in mobile browsers. What should I do if I don't have any ideas for a prompt to request?
- There are prompt lists online to help you find some inspiration. The prompt does not have to be specific, but you can be as specific as you like. You could request something based on a song, or a trope, or simply request an AU. Requests the general theme of Valentine's Day/White Day are also acceptible, leaving things open to the gift giver.
Example broad prompts: 'There was only one bed,' 'Star crossed lovers,' 'College AU,' 'snowball fight,' ect.Does Teyvat even have Valentine's Day or White Day?
- We're just going to pretend it does for the purposes of this exchange. The Windblume festival seems to be a similar vibe though, so if you would prefer to request based on that instead, go for it.What is a pinch hitter?
- Someone who will write or draw a request in place of a participant who had to drop out. You do not need to be signed up for this gift exchange to be a pinch hitter, so if you happen to miss the application deadline but still want to participate, please let me know that you are willing to step in if someone needs to drop out. You can send a message via twitter or tumblr. Participation as a pinch hitter will require having an Ao3 account to submit your work. What happens if I can't meet the deadline to finish my gift?
- If you applied for the February deadline, you technically have until the March deadline, but please let me know as soon as possible if you will need to switch deadlines. If you are not able to meet the March deadline either, please let me know so that I can let the recipient know that their gift may be late and/or find a pinch hitter. I don't want anyone to think that they were forgotten if they don't receive a gift on the 14th!What does the default button do? (After receiving your assignment).
- This button is for if you need to abandon your assignment. Please do not use this button until after speaking to me about dropping out so that a pinch hitter can be assigned. Can I post my work on social media?
- Please wait to share your work until after both deadlines have passed and the works have been revealed. After March 14th, you’re free to post it on any social media. Tag or message on tumblr or twitter so that your work can be reshared! How do I get in contact if I have other questions?
